The story so farThe Mental Health (Discrimination) Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 20 June 2012 by Gavin Barwell (Conservative). It completed its passage through Parliament and became law as the Mental Health (Discrimination) Act 2013, receiving Royal Assent on 28 February 2013.

What the bill does

<p>The aim of the Bill is to reduce the stigma and negative perceptions associated with mental illness. It would repeal legislative provisions that can prevent people with mental health conditions from serving as Members of Parliament, members of the devolved legislatures, jurors, or company directors.</p>
