The story so farThe Disqualification from Parliament (Taxation Status) Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 5 December 2007 by Mr Gordon Prentice (Labour). It is now at second reading in the House of Commons. Second reading is the first debate on the overall principle of the bill; if the bill clears it, detailed committee scrutiny follows.

What the bill does

<p>This Bill would introduce a new disqualification procedure for members of both Houses relating to residence and domicile for tax purposes. It would require Members and peers to submit a declaration that they complied with these conditions to the Speaker or the Lord Speaker.</p>
