Autism

A Bill to make provision about meeting the needs of adults with autistic spectrum conditions; and for connected purposes.

The story so farThe Autism was introduced in the House of Commons on 21 January 2009 by Mrs Cheryl Gillan (Conservative). It completed its passage through Parliament and became law, receiving Royal Assent on 12 November 2009.

What the bill does

Following amendments in a Public Bill Committee, which debates and examines the Bill clause by clause, the Bill would require the Secretary of State for Health to publish an adult autism strategy and to issue associated statutory guidance. It would also place a duty on local authorities and NHS bodies to act under this guidance.
