The story so farThe Climate Change (Sectoral Targets) Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 11 February 2009 by Mr Martin Caton (Labour). It is now at second reading in the House of Commons. Second reading is the first debate on the overall principle of the bill; if the bill clears it, detailed committee scrutiny follows.
What the bill does
This Bill would set energy efficiency and energy usage targets for different sectors of the economy, to be achieved by 2020. It would also set a target of 20 per cent of electricity to be generated from renewables by 2020, together with targets for microgeneration and combined heat and power generation.
