The story so farThe Hydrofluorocarbons Limitation Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 30 June 2009 by Clive Efford (Labour). It is now at second reading in the House of Commons. Second reading is the first debate on the overall principle of the bill; if the bill clears it, detailed committee scrutiny follows.
What the bill does
<p>The Bill would require the Secretary of State, having consulted 'such persons as he considers appropriate' to make regulations:</p><ul><li>to phase out the use of hydrofluorocarbons in equipment used in large shops within five years of the Bill becoming an Act </li><li>to specify a date by which the use of equipment using hydrofluorocarbons in other commercial premises must be ended. </li></ul><p>The Bill uses the definition of a 'large shop' contained in schedule 1 of the Sunday Trading Act 1994, which is a shop with a floor area exceeding 280 square metres.</p>
