The story so farThe Sustainable Energy (Local Plans) Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 1 July 2009 by Alan Simpson (Labour). It is now at second reading in the House of Commons. Second reading is the first debate on the overall principle of the bill; if the bill clears it, detailed committee scrutiny follows.
What the bill does
This Bill would require Regional Development Agencies and principal councils to publish sustainable energy plans after local consultation. The aim of the plans would be to facilitate the achievement of national carbon reduction targets, security of energy supply and national fuel poverty targets.
