Local Government Act 2010

A Bill to prevent the implementation of existing proposals made for the purposes of Part 1 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007; to revoke the Exeter and Devon (Structural Changes) Order 2010 and the Norwich and Norfolk (Structural Changes) Order 2010; and to make provision consequential on that revocation.

The story so farThe Local Government Bill was introduced in the House of Lords on 26 May 2010 by Baroness Hanham (Conservative). It completed its passage through Parliament and became law as the Local Government Act 2010, receiving Royal Assent on 16 December 2010.

What the bill does

The Bill gives effect to the Coalition Government’s commitment to put a stop to existing proposals for restructuring of councils in Norfolk, Devon and Suffolk. It would prevent implementation of any of the existing proposals for a single-tier local government structure - which in practice relate to these three counties - under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007.
