The story so farThe Training Wage Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 5 July 2010 by Mr Christopher Chope (Conservative). It is now at second reading in the House of Commons. Second reading is the first debate on the overall principle of the bill; if the bill clears it, detailed committee scrutiny follows.
What the bill does
The Bill would provide that anyone entitled to the national minimum wage, as defined in the National Minimum Wage Act 1998, would lose that entitlement if they had entered into a written contract of employment offering them a training wage and training from the employer in skills relevant to the employment.
