INCREASE OF PRICE OF BREAD

The motion
That this House notes with regret the decision of Allied Bakeries and other large suppliers to increase the wholesale price of bread by four pence and believes that this will impact unfairly upon small bakers and shopkeepers who are unable to negotiate discounts in the way in which large stores make deals with suppliers; and notes that consumers will have their choice reduced by the increased domination of the bread market by large stores and the reduction of the ability of small bakers and shopkeepers to compete.
