The motion
That this House recognises the tremendous developmental potential of Southern Africa following the birth of the new South Africa and the progress being made towards peace and democracy throughout the region; notes with concern the implications for the Southern African region, including South Africa, of the proposed reduction in the United Kingdom's contribution to the next European Development Fund (EDF VIII); and whilst recognising the importance of Britain's bilateral aid programme to Southern Africa, urges the British Government to review its position so that the European Union can contribute, as generously as possible, to the development programmes of the Southern African Development Community and its members.
