DISCRIMINATION AGAINST LESBIANS AND GAY MEN

That this House recognises that Thursday 25th May is the 100th anniversary of the imprisonment of Oscar Wilde; believes that the time has come to end discrimination under the law against lesbians and gay men in the United Kingdom; notes the case of four members of Her Majesty's forces who were dismissed solely on the grounds of their sexual orientation, despite having exemplary service records; calls for an urgent review of their cases and for an end to discrimination against lesbians and gay men in the armed forces; and to this end calls for an urgent review of the existing ban and an examination of the policies of all those countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Denmark, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and New Zealand, which have lifted the ban and introduced rules of conduct which do not discriminate against lesbians and gay men.
