INTERNATIONAL STATUS OF JERUSALEM AND THE MIDDLE EAST PEACE PROCESS

Tabled by Sir Cyril Townsend (Conservative) 79 signatures

The motion

That this House, in the interests of the ongoing peace procession the Middle East and in line with international law and international humanitarian law, reaffirms its support for the international status of the City of Jerusalem, originally set down in UN General Assembly Resolution 181; further gives its support to the Declaration of Principles signed between Israel and the PLO in September 1993, specifically Article V, which leaves the issue of the state of Jerusalem for final status negotiations; and condemns action taken by Israel and any other government which is designed to change that status and thus prejudice the final status negotiations.
