The motion

That this House records its deep sadness at the death of Harry Kay; recognises his life was dedicated to the service of others through his involvement in many organisations; notes his commitment to local democracy and a strategic authority for Londoners through his time as a Member of Dagenham Borough Council and the Greater London Council where he served as Labour's Housing Management spokesperson and Vice-Chairman of the authority; recalls his unstinting work within the Labour movement through his involvement in the National Union of Tailors and Garment Workers and Dagenham Constituency Labour Party; further recalls his contribution to his local community of Dagenham through his work over the years as Secretary of the Friends of Dagenham Hospital, Secretary of the British Legion, school governor and Chair of the Leisure and Welfare Section for Dagenham Town Show; further notes this commitment to the Internationalism through his role as a founder member of the Cuban Friendship Society; further recognises his outstanding contribution in his latter years to the cause of pensioners through his work as Chairman of both the Greater London and the Barking and Dagenham Forums for the Elderly; and believes that whilst he will be sadly missed by many, his memory will serve as an inspiration for more.
