The motion
leave out from `House' to end and add `sends its best wishes to the Turkish Cypriot people on the 11th Anniversary of the foundation of their Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus; deplores Greek Cypriot attempts to change the demography of the island by one-way assisted passages, terrorism, and three attempts at genocide against Turkish Cypriots before 1974; notes that Turkey was the only Guarantor to respect its international obligation to rescue the Turkish Cypriots from Greek Cypriot persecution, and trusts that Turkey will keep its troops in Cyprus who have prevented bloodshed there for 20 years, reminds the Greek Cypriots that sovereignty in the island was vested at independence in both the peoples of Cyprus; commends the Turkish Cypriot Government on their protection of the cultural and religious heritage despite Greek Cypriot efforts to deny them all international aid and expert assistance; congratulates President Denktas on his acceptance of the UN Confidence-Building Measures; deplores the continued recognition of the Greek Cypriot regime as if it were the lawful government of all Cyprus; considers that acceptance by the EU of the Greek Cypriot application for membership would be contrary to the 1960 Cyprus treaties and may therefore be illegal; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to commence direct talks on the future of Cyprus with the leaders of both the peoples of the island without further delay.'.
