TENANTS' RIGHTS

That this House is opposed to the decision of Her Majesty's Government to refuse the right of choice to the tenants of Cumbernauld Development Corporation resident in the Kildrum, Seafar and Carbrain districts of Cumbernauld as to their successor landlord following the closure of the Development Corporation; notes that a ballot conducted among the tenants by Cumbernauld Residents Federation resulted in 94.11 per cent indicating their opposition to being transferred to Scottish Homes without a ballot; congratulates the Residents Federation on their democratic initiative which stands in marked contrast to the actions of the Scottish Office; and calls upon the Government to urgently reconsider its position.
