REGULATION OF IMMIGRATION ADVISORS

Tabled by Bernie Grant (Labour) 59 signatures

The motion

That this House is appalled at the case of bogus immigration advisor John Bulled, jailed for eight years for raping young women who consulted him for legal advise; is concerned at the lack of any system of regulation or licensing of such advisors, a situation which has resulted in vulnerable people paying large sums of money to unscrupulous self-styled immigration 'experts' in the expectation of receiving specialist legal advice and representation only to discover that their claims have been disadvantaged by the activities of these 'experts'; and calls on Her Majesty's Government, in consultation with the Law Society and the Immigration Law Practitioners Association, to introduce a scheme for regulation of immigration advice practitioners.
