The motion
That this House notes that, despite his confession to having smacked his own children, the Leader of the Labour Party voted on a free vote of the House against moderate and reasonable corporal punishment in schools in 1986, thus removing a very valuable disciplinary sanction from teachers acting in loco parentis to the nation's children.
