BANK HOLIDAYS IN SCOTLAND

Tabled by William McKelvey (Labour) 89 signatures

The motion

That this House is deeply concerned that the TSB Scotland, The Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland, Clydesdale Bank and Airdrie Savings bank have imposed a change in holiday arrangements on customers and staff without any meaningful consultations and without taking account of Scottish customs by no longer recognising special national holidays in Scotland such as Hogmanay; furthermore is concerned that these banks have already operated without legal safeguards afforded to them by Schedule 1 of the Banking and Financial Dealing Act 1971 by closing on Easter Monday; and therefore calls on this Government to stop any further encroachment on bank holiday arrangements specific and special to Scotland.
