The motion

That this House welcomes the inclusion of the Sports City Foundation (Kettering) bid on the shortlist for the British Academy of Sport; notes that the proposal is to build a ú250 million flagship facility centred in the middle of Britain with provision for over 40 sporting disciplines and over 180 full-time coaches working on site in addition to those working through the hub site links; further notes that the scheme would provide a comprehensive partnership across the sporting spectrum by providing for full access to the academy both for the best and most promising British athletes and for over 100,000 school aged children per year; and further notes that the plan would be financially self-sufficient within four years of construction and would then be able to return ú20 million each year into British sport, a significant part of which would be given as direct funding to the proposed regional centres.
