SPENDING ASSESSMENT FOR LEICESTER

That this House notes that, in comparison to other authorities preparing for unitary status, Leicester has fared badly, with the level at which the cap has been set leading to reductions in services of ú17 million, threatening up to 275 compulsory redundancies and budget cuts in schools, elderly persons' homes, community services and the possible closure of St Marets's Baths; notes that a standstill in council tax would avoid ú5.8 million of the cuts; and calls upon the Secretary of State to reconsider Leicester's settlement given Leicester's unique circumstances.
