ACCESS TO ABORTION SERVICES

That this House notes that a Mori poll commissioned by Marie Stopes International and the National Abortion Campaign has found that 60 per cent. of the British public are unaware that the permission of two doctors is required to make an abortion legal; believes that the result of the poll indicates a need for the public, and especially women seeking termination of a pregnancy, to be informed of the procedures involved; further believes that if women seeking termination are unaware of the legal requirements of the Abortion Act 1967, this may unnecessarily delay their access to abortion services and lead to more terminations after 12 weeks; and calls upon the Government to do all it can to ensure the public are better educated about the legal requirements for termination of pregnancy.
