FUNDING OF RESTORATION IN MANCHESTER

Tabled by Robert Litherland (Labour) 45 signatures

The motion

That this House deplores the cynical and hypocritical manner in which Her Majesty's Government has treated the city of Manchester since the devastation caused by the IRA bomb outrage; notes with concern that Her Majesty's Government's contribution towards the restoration, in financial terms, is so paltry as to be grossly insulting to the citizens of Manchester; and concludes that visits by Her Majesty's Government Ministers bringing words of sympathy accompanied by crocodile tears ring hollow and meaningless in the extreme unless Her Majesty's Government is prepared to honour its commitments and instead of slashing the Council's budget by ú7.3 million provides the necessary finance to restore the city of Manchester to its former glory.
