That this House welcomes the proposal in the Government White Paper, Fairness at Work, to provide a legal right for employees to be accompanied by a trade union representative of their choice during grievance and disciplinary procedures; notes that Abbey National plc continues to refuse to recognise the Banking Insurance and Finance Union and denies individual representation rights to the union's members; and calls upon Abbey National to co-operate with the Banking Insurance and Finance Union and to grant its employees who are members the right to be represented by a representative or official of the union in all grievance and disciplinary hearings.
