NUCLEAR MATERIALS DISPOSITION POLICY AND CONTROL

That this House is concerned that a potential precedent has been set by the planned shipment of highly enriched uranium from Georgia to Dounreay; believes that any further proposed shipments should not proceed until there has been a full and open debate in this House about the potential health, environmental, economic and proliferation risks of such shipments; is alarmed that current policy appears to be one of promoting plutonium and highly enriched uranium as a valuable resource rather than a major international problem; believes that reprocessing is not a solution for dealing with the glut of fissile materials in the world but that it is part of the problem; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to host an international conference to establish a global fissile material disposition policy that shares the burden for dealing with this global proliferation problem equally between all nations.
