Tabled by Mr Ieuan Wyn Jones (Plaid Cymru)

The motion
That this House notes the recent Gallup poll showing that only 2 per cent. of people want National Lottery money spent on the Millennium Dome, that 73 per cent. regard it as a waste of public money and that 84 per cent. would prefer it to be spent on the NHS or schools and universities; regards the project, as it has developed, as ill-considered, shambolic and a tasteless national humiliation with the potential to become an environmental disaster; accordingly believes that a better celebration of the year 2000 would be to distribute the ú758 million as ú1.15 million for worthwhile projects in each of the 659 parliamentary constitutencies or to construct a permanent building of enduring architectural and spiritual significance.
