21st Anniversary of the Open University

That this House congratulates the Open University on its 21st Anniversary; notes that it has provided a successful and efficient range of courses across many disciplines to an enormous number of adults of all ages, using distance learning methods; is pleased that the services continue to grow, with more than 200,000 students in 1989 thus providing a cost effective source of education, which always needs to have adequate funding; and places on record its appreciation of the services of the staff of the Open University which has now achieved world renown.
