The motion

That this House congratulates the British Isles Lions rugby union touring team on its magnificent performance in winning a Test Series against South Africa for only the second time this century and only the third time ever that any overseas team has beaten the Springboks in a Test series in South Africa; commends Martin Johnson for his captaincy, Neil Jenkins, Jeremy Guscott et al for scoring the points at the critical times in both Test matches so far; fails to recall any previous occasion when a 21-stone Springbok prop forward has had to call the trainer on for treatment because he hurt himself trying to tackle the other side's centre threequarter as happened to Os du Randt vis a vis Scott Gibbs; encourages the Lions to make it 3-0 on Saturday; and calls on both the British and Irish Prime Ministers to host jointly a reception for the team at a point midway between London and Dublin preferably Cardiff, as an indication of this House's appreciation of what the 35 members of the touring party have done for the Northern Hemisphere's rugby reputation.
