LIVERPOOL DAILY POST'S GENERAL ELECTION COVERAGE

Tabled by Dr John Marek (Labour) 19 signatures

The motion

That this House notes with dismay the advice given by the Daily Post prior to the General Election in its editorial article suggesting that readers should vote for the Conservative Party; further notes that in the General Election the Conservatives failed to win a single seat in any of the 13 constituencies served by the Welsh edition of the Daily Post in North and Mid Wales; expresses dismay at the lack of in-depth coverage and analysis given by the Daily Post to the election campaign in Wales and the consequent degree to which the paper was out of touch with its readership in Wales; registers its concern that a newspaper which in the past has served Wales well should now take an overtly party political line which is totally at variance with the views held by the majority of people in its Welsh sales area; and calls on the management and editorial staff of the paper to re-consider this regrettable drift in policy.
