ALLEANZA NAZIONALE AND THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY

Tabled by Mr Ken Livingstone (Independent) 19 signatures

The motion

That this House notes with grave concern the contacts between sections of the British Conservative Party and the Italian neo-fascist party, Alleanza Nazionale; further notes that the honourable Member for Stone, President of the European Foundation, whose headquarters were used for meetings between AN and senior Tories, has confirmed that he met Mr Fini, the AN leader, last year; believes that such parties advocate policies which would destroy democracy, whip up racism and remove human and civil rights from black and other ethnic minorities in Europe; and calls upon the Conservative Party and all other legitimate political parties to give a clear and unambiguous pledge that they will not enter into discussions or formal or informal agreements with such parties which can only lend them legitimacy and give aid and succour to similar parties in Britain, like the British National Party.
