IAIN HAY GORDON'S ACQUITTAL

Tabled by Mrs Maria Fyfe (Labour) 34 signatures

The motion

That this House warmly congratulates Mr Iain Hay Gordon on winning his long battle to clear his name and be found not guilty of the murder of Patricia Curran in 1952, in what may be the longest miscarriage of justice in British history; further congratulates Margot Harvey, his solicitor, his counsel, Sir Louis Blom-Cooper, High Pierce, the barrister who spent over 40 years until his death in 1998 pursuing this case, and journalist John Linklater, who campaigned tirelessly to expose the inconsistencies in the way the entire case had been handled; and also congratulates the honourable Member for Sunderland South, who brought in the Bill which amended the legislation so as to make it possible for Mr Gordon to seek the overturn of the 'guilty but insane' verdict which has blighted almost half a century of this man's life.
