Tabled by Mrs Jackie Lawrence (Labour)

The motion
That this House is concerned that the forthcoming Draft European Directive on Consumer Credit will reduce elements of consumer protection currently in force in the United Kingdom by overriding the provisions of Section 75 of the United Kingdom Consumer Credit Act which allows United Kingdom consumers the right to seek compensation from credit card providers if they have problems with goods or services bought with their cards; and calls on the Government to resist the lowering of the level of protection offered to United Kingdom credit card holders within the terms of this directive.
