VOTES AT 16 CAMPAIGN

That this House welcomes the formation of the Votes at 16 campaign, a coalition of charities, political experts, young people and organisations representing them, who have come together in belief that lowering the voting age would improve the quality of the politics in the United Kingdom through involving more citizens in debate; believes that would show to young people that their opinions are valid, thus helping to reconnect many people, who otherwise would not vote, with the politicians who seek to represent them; and further believes that it would be logical in view of the introduction of citizenship education into the national curriculum up to the age of 16, and that it would fall into line with the age at which other rights are accrued; and calls on the Government to legislate to lower the voting age for all public elections.
