ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

That this House notes that Alzheimer's disease is widely acknowledged to be the fourth most common cause of death in the Western world; welcomes the pioneering research into Alzheimer's disease currently being undertaken by Professor Raymond Levy and his team at the Maudsley Hospital in London, and awarded a top priority alpha-rating by the Medical Research Council; congratulates Parke-Davis Research Laboratories on its support for this work; and recognises that the development of an effective treatment for Alzheimer's disease would be a most significant breakthrough, potentially enhancing the quality of life of countless millions throughout the world.
