The motion

That this House congratulates the England football team on its fine performances in Euro 2004; deeply regrets its defeat on penalties by Portugal, wishes the Portuguese team well in the semi-finals; congratulates the tournament organisers and Portuguese people for their hospitality and warm welcome during the competition; notes that concerns have been raised about the quality of refereeing decisions during a number of matches; calls upon UEFA and FIFA adequately to address these concerns so that no further matches are ruined for fans by dubious decisions; and hopes that, reflecting the great footballing traditions of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Wales, England and Scotland will once again find themselves competing against each other at European championships and World Cup finals.
