LESSONS FROM RWANDA FOR PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE
Tabled by Clare Short (Independent Labour)

The motion
That this House welcomes the International Development Select Committee's investigation into Darfur, but believes that in order to improve the UK response to the threat of genocide, lessons need to be learned from the failure of the UK to take action, in the Security Council and elsewhere, to try to prevent Rwanda's descent into genocide; and believes that, as have other parliaments, the appropriate parliamentary committee should establish an inquiry into the UK response to the threat of genocide in Rwanda in 1993-94.
