The motion
That this House notes the devastating flash floods which occurred in the Helmsley area of North Yorkshire on Sunday 19th June and extends its sympathy to the many families and businesses whose homes and property were seriously damaged; expresses its thanks and admiration for the prompt action of the emergency services, in particular the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, North Yorkshire Police and local authority staff; further notes that the ferocity of the flood has caused widespread damage to local roads and bridges which are vital to local communities and which will have to be rebuilt at significant capital cost; and therefore calls on the Government to provide North Yorkshire County Council with the necessary financial support to rebuild road links as a matter of urgency and to refund local authorities the significant cost of the emergency through the Bellwin formula.
