INCREASE IN TOBACCO TAX

Tabled by Mr Alan Amos (Conservative) 5 signatures

The motion

That this House warmly congratulates the Chancellor of the Exchequer on raising excise duty by 15 per cent. on tobacco products and notes that this will save some 4,000 lives a year; further notes, however, that this still leaves the real price of cigarettes below the level of 1987 and only half the cost of 30 years ago; and urges the Chancellor to carry on the good work in creating a healthier, safer and cleaner environment.
