The motion
That this House notes that in 1987, 49 Labour Councillors in Liverpool and 13 Labour Councillors in Lambeth were surcharged and removed from office for the delay in setting a rate on the basis of lost income from interest; recognises in view of the announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to amend the method of collection of the Poll Tax, the subsequent delay this will have on councils sending out bills and therefore people paying them; calls on the district auditors to investigate and calculate the possible national interest lost from each council and to bring charges against the Chancellor and the Government for the recovery of such losses.
