SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS IN OLDHAM

The motion

That this House welcomes the report of the Education and Skills Select Committee on Special Educational Needs; notes that a key recommendation in the report is that the Government `should facilitate and encourage collaborative arrangements where communities of schools work together, sharing facilities and professional expertise, to improve the outcomes for children with SEN'; commends Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council for their wisdom and foresight in co-locating the splendid New Bridge Special School with the mainstream Kaskenmoor school in Hollinwood; recognises that both schools have benefited significantly from being located on the same site to the extent that they are now a living example of the kind of facility that the report so strongly recommends; and therefore urges the Government to ensure that the Select Committee recommendation is acted upon and incorporated into any Building Schools for the Future proposals.
