SLAUGHTER OF GREYHOUNDS

Tabled by Sir Lindsay Hoyle (Speaker) 72 signatures

The motion

That this House condemns the slaughter of 10,000 greyhounds by Mr David Smith, who buried them in a one acre plot of land at the rear of his home; notes that Mr Smith receives business from trainers across the country who want greyhounds put down after they are no longer considered to be fast enough to race; welcomes the Government's inquiry into the slaughter and potential health and environmental hazards this may cause; and calls on the British Greyhound Racing Board to investigate this matter and to invest more money into promoting and providing retirement homes for greyhounds as well as ensuring that when a dog has to be put down humane methods are used.
