The motion
That this House notes that approximately 70,000 people receive hip replacements in the UK each year; further notes that clinical trials show the Exeter hip implant, marketed by Stryker UK, who are based in Newbury, can last 30 years and beyond, significantly longer than the 10 to 12 year norm; congratulates the work of the NHS surgeons who are trained to use this British invention, which is recognised as being amongst the best in the world; and urges the Government to introduce a 15 year rating for the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel database, rather than the current maximum 10 year rating, to provide clinicians with the best and most up-to-date information on the effectiveness of orthopaedic devices such as hip replacements.
