The motion

That this House condemns the decision made by the Energy Minister to give permission on 15th June 2006 for a waste power station (incinerator) to be built in Norman Road, Belvedere; recognises that such waste power stations can produce more carbon dioxide emissions than gas fired power stations; notes that the construction of such a waste power station would have a negative impact on the Government's target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and would place the attaining of such targets in jeopardy; further notes that the Government has not yet completed its Waste Strategy; is concerned about the negative impact that such a waste power station will have on the local environment and on the health of the local residents; is further concerned about the dangers posed by the by-product left after incineration; and recognises the efforts of campaigners who have fought this plan and similar other plans for 16 years.
