THE LATE MURIEL ROBERTS AND COUNCIL HOUSING REFORM
Tabled by Keith Vaz (Labour)
22 signatures
The motion
That this House notes with sadness the death of Muriel Roberts, a frail elderly woman from Leicester who never got the benefit from a walk-in shower that would have enabled her to wash herself properly; further notes that Mrs Roberts requested the shower from Leicester City Council a year and three months before her death and that her progress towards getting the shower was impeded by bureaucratic frustrations and circuitous procedures that are not atypical of such requests; calls for an immediate simplification of local government procedure relating to the request of housing modifications; and notes that this would be of particular benefit to the elderly.
