KURDS' CALL FOR A CEASEFIRE IN TURKEY

That this House supports and encourages the call by the leader of the Kurdish people, Abdullah Ocalan, on the KKK (Movement for Democratic Confederalism) Executive Council for a unilateral ceasefire; calls on the Turkish government to recognise this ceasefire; further calls on the British Government to promote a democratic solution to the Kurdish question and an end to the violence, and to support the declared 'ceasefire`; and urges the European Union to make it plain to the Turkish government that the peaceful, just and lasting resolution of the Kurdish question is a prerequisite to a successful outcome to that country's bid for full EU membership.
