ILLEGAL SHARK HUNTING

Tabled by Sir Lindsay Hoyle (Speaker) 57 signatures

The motion

That this House notes with concern the number of sharks which are being hunted in the Pacific Ocean; further notes that sharks are being pushed to the verge of extinction while illegal fishing companies are making a lucrative business out of hunting sharks and selling their fins which are sold throughout Asia for the popular dish of shark fin soup; recognises the scale of the problem as fishing vessels come from as far away as Japan to hunt sharks; and calls on the Government to work with EU partners to introduce a new international agreement in order to protect threatened species of sharks.
