Tabled by John Battle (Labour) 82 signatures

The motion

That this House welcomes Labour Students' campaign `Make Child Poverty History'; applauds the Government's historic commitment to abolish child poverty by 2020 and its achievement in lifting 800,000 children from poverty; recognises that ending child poverty will involve both greater financial support for parents and more opportunities for them to gain the skills they need to find better paid and more secure employment; supports the campaign's aims of making school uniform grants and school activity funds available for all children, increasing financial support for pregnant women, refocusing the Sure Start maternity grant for the benefit of the poorest parents and making child benefit rates the same for all children; acclaims Labour Students' efforts in raising awareness of child poverty and the voluntary work of students with underprivileged children throughout the UK; and urges the Government to deliver the changes called for in the campaign.
