The motion
That this House notes that since Royal Mail has been opened up to competition private companies have been able to cherry pick the most profitable business mail, whilst leaving Royal Mail to fulfil the Universal Service Obligation; expresses concern that the Department of Work and Pensions has chosen to award postal contracts to rivals of Royal Mail; and notes that the loss of such business is seriously damaging and if this trend continues could ultimately lead to Royal Mail being unable to fulfil the Universal Service Obligation.
