The motion
That this House recalls that 54 of the last 59 world conflicts have been civil wars in which the casualties were mainly civilians, including the two million children killed and four million maimed in the past decade; congratulates the brilliantly effective British troops on their peacekeeping roles in Sierra Leone, Kosovo and Bosnia; mourns the massive loss of lives war fighting in Iraq, including the 129 British soldiers; regrets the inability of nations to end the slaughter in Darfur because of overstretch elsewhere; and affirms that the UK's military task is to end civil wars rather than to provoke them.
