ACCESS TO MORTGAGES FOR FIRST TIME BUYERS

That this House notes recent speculation that a number of financial institutions are giving serious consideration to the withdrawal of fixed rate mortgages; considers that if this were to take place it would further inhibit the prospects of many people, particularly the young and first time buyers who seek the certainty of fixed rate mortgages, especially during times when rates as well as house prices are escalating; and calls upon mortgage lenders to give a lead in declaring their intention to maintain these products, offering some help to those finding it most difficult to become home owners.
