EUROPEAN COURT OF JUSTICE RULING ON OCCUPATIONAL PENSIONS
Tabled by Mr David Laws (Liberal Democrat)

The motion
That this House welcomes the judgement by the European Court of Justice that the Government's current measures to protect the pensions of members of occupational pension schemes which have wound up because the company has become insolvent are inadequate under the Insolvency Directive; further notes the court's judgement on the inadequacy of the Financial Assistance Scheme; recognises that the loss of these pensions is in part the fault of successive governments; and therefore calls upon the Government to bring forward fresh proposals for a fair level of compensation for all those people who have lost their pensions.
